Children's Book Week 2023

Childcare Book Week
This week, our four childcare centres celebrated Children's Book Week. This is an annual event on our calendars, where we celebrate books, and Australian children's authors and illustrators.

Each year since 1945, the Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) has brought children and books together across Australia through Children's Book Week. The first Children’s Book Week theme was 'United Through Books', and there has been a different theme every year since. The theme for Book Week 2023 is Read, Grow, Inspire, and Matt Ottley has created the wonderfull illustrations for the theme.

We marked this wonderful week with dress-up days, book sharing, storytelling, reading, and many experiences surrounding our favourite books. The children and staff wore so many wonderful costumes representing books and characters that we all love. There were superheroes, fairies, dinosaurs, footy players, princesses and even The Wiggles! We also saw costumes related to favourite books such as Where Is The Green Sheep?, We're Going On A Bear Hunt, and Where's Wally!

Kids on Gallaghers and Wheelers Hill had very special visits from Michelle and Bronwyn respectively who work for the Monash Public Library Service. They hosted storytime sessions with childcare and kindergarten room groups, sharing some of their favourite stories and songs with us.

If you visited Kids on Gallaghers this week, or follow them on Facebook, you would have seen that they have turned their foyer into a real-life storybook! The set of The Wizard of Oz has been replicated within the centre's foyer, complete with a Yellow Brick Road! What they have done is absolutely incredible and must be seen to be believed. Check out their Facebook page here for photos, videos, and some surprise character cameos - Kids on Gallaghers Facebook Page
