It's Dental Health Week

Childcare Dentist
Dental Health Week is a national oral health awareness week created by the Australian Dental Association. It takes place annually in the first full week of August. This year, we celebrated it from 7th to 13th August.

The campaign focuses on the importance of taking steps to care for your teeth and gums to help you keep your teeth and smile for life. 😁

This year’s theme is: Mind, Body, Mouth - it’s all connected. The aim of this theme is to highlight the links between diseases in the mouth and diseases in the body. Bacteria in the mouth can travel to different sites of the body and inflammation in the mouth can increase the body’s overall inflammation.

Six conditions have been explored in how they link with the mouth:

  1. Heart Disease
  2. Diabetes
  3. Alzheimer's Disease
  4. Adverse Pregnancy Outcomes
  5. Lung Conditions
  6. Inflammatory Bowel Disease

At Trident Early Learning, we encourage healthy hygiene and dental habits during daily childcare routines and in our educational programs. A local dental service visits annually to provide free dental checks. They also host incursions for our kindergarten children that highlight the importance of looking after your teeth.

Our centres are enrolled in health promotion programs such as the Victorian Achievement program and Smiles 4 Miles oral health promotion program, which support a whole service approach to health and wellbeing, including dental care.

Did You Know?

  • Dentists recommend brushing your teeth for two minutes each day, morning and night.
  • First dental visits are recommended when the first tooth appears or at one year of age; whichever comes first.
  • 1 in 4 children drink fruit juice every day. Sugary drinks can lead to tooth erosion and decay.
  • Adults should use only a pea-sized amount of toothpaste. Young children under 6 years of age should use a smear of toothpaste only.
  • Make water your drink of choice. Water is tooth-friendly and the best drink to keep your body hydrated.
