Throughout August, all four of our childcare centres had an incursion with Lois from Sprouts Yoga. Every Sprouts Yoga incursion is a half hour of gentle choreography filled with giggle-worthy stories, relaxing meditative sounds and adventurous yogi play.
Practicing yoga increases childrens confidence, strengthens their growing bodies, and builds concentration. It teaches discipline and can reduce challenging behaviors by providing children with a physical outlet to express themselves.
Yoga is non-competitive and teaches children how to manage stress through healthy movement, mindfulness and meditation. It promotes self-confidence and self-esteem, giving young children a sense of personal empowerment.
Though yoga is typically regarded as an individual activity, there is also a social component to it which supports the development of social skills including listening, communicating, cooperating, sharing, following directions, and respecting personal space.
